Product summary = The authentic specialty rice from Chanpatia, Bihar, is the Marcha Rice (also known as Mircha or Marchaiya), which was officially awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag on 31 July 2023. While Chanpatia is also known for producing aromatic Basmati rice, Marcha Rice is the region’s unique indigenous variety, Producing Areas: Cultivation is concentrated in six blocks of the West Champaran district: Chanpatia, Mainatand, Gaunaha, Narkatiaganj, Ramnagar, and Lauriya.
Environmental Factors: The rice develops its distinct aroma due to the local agro-climatic conditions along the Burhi-Gandak and Sikarahna rivers, where the soil is enriched by Himalayan mineral runoff.
Yield & Maturity: The crop typically matures in 140–150 days with an average yield of 20–25 quintals per hectare

Appearance: The grains are short and oval, bearing a strong resemblance to black pepper (hence the name Marcha or Mircha).
